Spain, Majorca, Santa Ponsa
On the island of Mallorca, sometimes spelled Majorca, there is a wonderful town called Santa Ponsa. Located on the south west coast, it is approximately 12 miles to the west of Palma.
One of the main draws of Santa Ponsa is its sandy beach. You should get there early and pick out your spot. This beach is very popular with both tourists and locals who travel from Palma and other surrounding areas for the day. On the beach, you can “hire” a sunbed and parasol for the day. There is a safety area for swimming that is roped off and it is not recommended that you wander outside of it. A lifeguard is in attendance at all times and the instructions he gives those on the beach must be followed immediately.
A great benefit to those coming to Santa Ponsa with youngsters is the small, sandy beach on the way to the marina. This location is safe for children, while being very compact. This area of water remains quite shallow for a long way out, making it perfect for the smallest guests.
Activities and attractions in and around Santa Ponsa
Water activities in Santa Ponsa include boat trips, diving facilities and sea fishing. You can buy all the materials and equipment you need locally, so you can make the most of your trip.
Day trips outside of Santa Ponsa are quite popular with travelers. One of the most beautiful you can take is the trip up the coast to Deya and Valldemossa. The scenery is spectacular, even though the road is bit twisty.
Traveling around Santa Ponsa and nearby areas can be a bit tricky. Taxis can be hailed when the green light on the roof is lit. However, some of the drivers do have a habit of ignoring those hailing them. Taxis are only allowed a maximum of four passengers, as well. If you have a large family or a disabled member in your party, you should contact the Calvia Taxis for vehicles that cater to those situations. Some tourists opt to rent a car, but be aware that you need to be over 21 years old, hold a drivers license, and have at least two years experience driving.
Markets in Santa Ponsa Majorca
Markets are a popular attraction in Mallorca. Most of them are held in the morning and actually close by 1:30 PM. It is best to arrive before 10:30 AM to be able to browse at your leisure. The closest large market to Santa Ponsa is at Andraitx and held every Wednesday morning. The Inca Market, held on Thursday mornings, is one of the largest markets on the island and well worth a day trip.
Most tourists visit this area between May and October, but there are special events held during the winter months. Anytime you visit, there is always something fun to see and do in Santa Ponsa.
