Spain, Majorca, Cala San Vicente
As the sun rises, guests who are awake early enough will notice the fishermen of Cala San Vincente. The scent of sea salted Mediterranean air is intoxicating in this simple time and place. Cala San Vincente remains an island resort that has yet to let go of time honored farming and fishing practices long known to the island.
Many of the people of this island speak as many as four languages, Catalan (the native language), Spanish, English and German. The last two languages are integrated into the mentality of the islanders for the tourist trade which is predominantly European. For nearly fifty years tourists from the United Kingdom and Germany have made the various resorts of Majorca(Mallorca) and Ibiza convenient and beautiful holiday destinations.
From the AirportOnce you arrive by plane it is a ride of less than two hours to Cala San Vincente. Public transportation is available, but many prefer a car hire which often allows visitors to feel more control over their island experience.
AtmosphereIt may be interesting to note that Cala San Vincente is comprised of mostly residential structures, yet guests often feel as if they have found a home away from home when they visit this friendly island resort community. Cala San Vincente is an ideal resort for mature couples or those who have older children. The pace is slow and the nightlife is limited. Perhaps it is this combination that makes Cala San Vincente a place that many return to time and again in anticipation of the relaxing sense they have experienced here.
Spectacular ViewsThe scenery in Cala San Vincente is both rugged and picturesque especially along Cala Barques, the largest and most visited beach in Cala San Vincente. This beach offers guests the opportunity to dine in special island restaurants and shops. This beach is located close to the resort hotel. Visitors should be aware that because Cala Barques is the most popular beach in Cala San Vincente it can be very crowded. By following beach trails you can gain access to the less visited beaches of Cala Clara and Cala Molins. The view from any of these beaches is spectacular and guests routinely comment about the fine sand, clear water and the exceptional view of the Formentor peninsula cliffs.
ActivitiesCala San Vincente features a windsurfing school and many guests enjoy the unique adventure while admiring the clear waters and scenic views as they learn a new sport on the historic Mediterranean Sea.Nature walks are encouraged in Cala San Vincente and the pine laden hills provide a quiet getaway to enjoy the natural beauty of the resort as well as providing ample opportunity to view exotic birds. If you are planning a visit to Cala San Vincente be sure to bring your camera. If you enter the resort from the south you will discover amazing views of the entire bay. While photography is encouraged, the road is narrow and winding, be very careful regarding traffic should you decide to stop for a holiday photo opportunity.
Easter in Cala San VincenteEven during the off season (November-April) there are many guests that will come specifically to enjoy a mild winter holiday and to visit the Can Gat Restaurant which has a history of more than 180 years. As a former ‘fish house’ for Cala San Vincente this popular restaurant is opened specifically for Easter guests.
