Campanet

campanetIt might be a peaceful break, but there is still plenty to see and do. Campanet is situated in the countryside away from the coast, at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains, so walking and hiking are popular pursuits. There are many lovely traditional Majorcan villages to find and explore, with cliff walks and beautiful countryside filled with orange and olive groves and almond orchards. The forests are amazing too. The evergreen oaks are no more however, as they were cut down to build ships for the Spanish Armada.

Visit the Campanet caves and see the stalactites and stalagmites. Wander along the passageways and around the pools and chambers. A magical experience!
One of the most amazing sights in Majorca is Ses Fonts Ufanes. If it has rained heavily, water gushes out of the ground and forms rivers through the trees. These outpourings of water are known as vauclusian springs.

A fascinating experience is to watch the old Majorcan art of glassmaking and this can be seen in Menestralia, outside Campanet.
Visit the old gothic church of Sant Miquel, which was built in 1717. It holds the relics of the martyr San Victoriano, whose body is dressed in the garb of a warrior. His festival is in July, and in September the festival of Sant Miquel, the town’s patron saint is held.

If you really can’t manage without a little sunbathing on the beach, the resorts of Alcudia and Formentor are not far away.
After all your exertions, you’ll be ready for a peaceful evening. There is no nightlife in Campanet, and the local bars are relaxing places to spend some time. You will find that there are excellent restaurants in the hotels here too.
