Spain, Majorca, Ca'n Pastilla

There is a beautiful village on the south east coast of Majorca, called Colonia Sant Jodi.  This is in effect an island which also known in more common terms as the Port de Campos. Situated just 40 kms away from Palma and the Son Sant Joan International Airport, it is easily accessible from the airport. Some patches of the road are not that good and hence the trip from the airport usually takes one hour. The transfer from the airport is done either by bus or taxi.

This place is very little known; hence all the tourists who come here either stumbled upon it by chance while exploring the areas surrounding Palma, or they have come after recommendations from friends.

Colonia Sant Jardi is a fishing village established way back in 1879 and tourism here is relatively new. The first outbreak of German tourists landed in Colonia Sant Jardi around the mid ‘50s. The beaches here are beautiful and ideal for sunbathing as there are very few people. If you are an early riser you can catch the early morning ferry to Cabrera (Goat Island) which is a tiny island, doubling as park since 1991. This island was once upon a time the hiding place of a number of (in)famous pirates of the high seas; it was also used as a camp for prisoners by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The district that this island resort belongs to is called Ses Saline or “Source of Salt” since in the ancient times the Romans used this place to extract salt from the sea. There is a residential area some seven kilometers away. The place feels and looks modern though there is nothing much to see from a tourist point of view.

The beach Sa Platia des Port is also the fishing port of the Colonia Sant Jordi. Here, you will find all the facilities of a tourist place, i.e. food, drinks, shopping arcades, flea markets and even accommodation. In the night there are quite a few beach parties in this region.

You may also visit the other beaches that surround this tiny island, including the Ets Estany, the Es Carbo, the Es Trenc and the Es Dolc. Each one will outshine the other in its beauty, facilities and azure-like waters.

There is one great attraction here that takes many by surprise. The beach of Es Trenc is one of the most popular Majorca nudist beaches. People here enjoy the sun totally oblivious of any inhibitions. It is advised not to bring children in the area. In case you feel offended by the sight, you can avoid it from your itinerary. Many however, go at least once to see if not personally experience what it means to shed all inhibitions and be stark naked in front of the whole world.  It is definitely something new to experience!
